The BookmarkSync Toolbar features a unique method for ranking websites, the 'Penetration" ratio. This ratio ranks a website based upon the number of people actually bookmarking a website. The value of the ratio spans 0-100, 0 meaning very few people have bookmarked the page, to 100, indicating that a large number of people have bookmarked the page. The value is calculated for each page that you visit while you are browsing the net and displayed on the toolbar in graphical form. The value is also displayed while searching clusters and websites on the BookmarkSync.com website.

Based upon the combined 'votes' of tens of thousands of users bookmarking millions of websites, the penetration ratio cannot be influenced by link trading, link farms or any one of many other schemes to influence a websites visibility. That other ranking scheme was valuable several years ago, but it's lost it's novelty due to an ever increasing cadre of schemes to influnce a page's 'pagerank'(tm). That's why we developed the penetration ratio. This metric is unique and BookmarkSync.com was the first in the world to offer it in a real-time toolbar format.

People save bookmarks for various reasons, but for whatever reason you bookmark a website, you have in one sense, 'voted' for it by committing the extra effort necessary to add it to your favorites in an appropriate folder, consequently then, you've placed some 'value' into the link. The Penetration ratio is calculated using this formula. Ln(N*(N^C)) where N is the number of times the site was bookmarked and C is a constant to scale the population of results to a fixed range.
